Sneak preview
The new module is a Eurorack format Eurorack/Buchla translator called CVGT1. It allows Eurorack and Buchla synths to interact with each other, as the name suggest it provides a CV and a Gate/Trigger interface. Not only does it provide the correct format connectors (and adheres to the Buchla color code) but it also deals with the CV scaling and offsetting and the gate/trigger and timing pulse conversion required to allow control in both directions. The module is in final stages of build and will need to undergo design proving tests before I release it into the world. So far the front panels are complete and all the components are in stock except for the slightly important PCBs which are due in tomorrow (18th July 2012). The intended launch date is Saturday 21st July at the Brighton Modular Meet at the University of Sussex just outside Brighton UK.
Here are some quick photos of the panels and partial assembly. I will follow up in a few days with better photos of the fully assembled module, further details and User Manual download link.
these look great! i want one! are they passive? where can i get one? - i live in london...
ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteThe module is not passive; it uses precision amplifiers for the CV translation and detectors and timers for the pulse, gate and trigger circuits. You can order directly from me via PayPal but please wait a few days until I have proven the first few production built modules. I don't want to take any money until I'm sure that they work properly and can be delivered. Please watch for my blog update with all the details in just a few day's time.
Thanks again for your interest.
Regards
Tony
Tony i love to order a few!
ReplyDeleteHello Tony,
ReplyDeleteAre you still producing these?
I'd like to buy a few too.
Do you think using it to translate serge to buchla and vice versa would work as good as with euro?
ReplyDeleteHi Seth,
ReplyDeleteAs per the chat on muffwigglers (but repeated here for anyone who hasn't seen that thread) the CVGT1 works for Buchla & Euro and for Serge and Euro but for Buchla & Serge it is not suited; mainly because it requires you to have a Euro rack also. The solution that I am researching and doing some priminary design on is a Buchla mounted ModuleModule version that will be good for Buchla & Euro (variant 1) and for Buchla and Serge (variant 2) - perhaps other variants may be required too for other formats but that's part of my ongoing research (to understand all the formats and their signal characteristics and connector styles). Anyone reading this response is free to offer suggestions for other variants.
Cheers
Tony
